A Bed and Breakfast in Paonia, Colorado
Go for the Gold
You’ll find it in Paonia. In autumn the North Fork Valley is surrounded by GOLD. Drive over McClure Pass and marvel at the aspens. And, if the aspens on the Pass are losing color look in the valley below and you’ll see golden cottonwoods, red scrub oak and other colorful vegetation. Of course the most famous gold of all are the huge stands of aspens on the Kebler Pass Road. Or, you can reach the gold via the Grand Mesa Byway (Highway 65). So, it doesn’t matter which road you take to get here, you are going to see lots of beautiful gold. The journey is golden, but Paonia is the Pot of Gold with plenty of goodies for you to savor: inviting bed and breakfasts, farm-to-table dining, boutique wines and beers, art, music, friendly people, and a peaceful, small agricultural community. We invite you to peek into the pot of gold, enjoy its treasures, and return whenever your soul needs to be refreshed.
Mountain Harvest Festival
The harvest is here. Paonia is home to the largest concentration of organic farmers in the state; it’s surrounded by orchards and vineyards. The mouth watering food that is produced here is available mid-June through October at farm markets and tasting rooms. A celebration of this fruitful valley is held each autumn to acknowledge the work of all our creators - writers, artists, musicians, growers, food processors, and the general public. Join us for one or more days of the festival and you’ll be back for more next year. Check out www.mountainharvestfestival.org for the full schedule of events. You’ll find learning opportunities in seminars and tours and just plain old fun at the Grape Stomp and the concerts. Come Celebrate!
October Fest can best be described as a community social event. The work of bringing in the harvest is done. It’s still warm enough to get together outside with your friends and neighbors. So roll out the barrels of beer, cook the brats, and start the music. The Paonia Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the town’s first October Fest. Come one and all to the Living Farm Cafe on Grand Avenue between First and Second Streets and join the festivities. Don’t forget your dancing shoes. You might want to practice your polka steps, too.
