Murder at the Bross!
Murder Mystery Nights at the Bross Hotel B&B are participatory activities. You do not watch actors portray a murder scene. You are a guest when a murder occurs and it is up to you and the other guests to determine which of you is the murderer. This is done through questioning among the guests during the evening and over a themed dinner.
For this to work smoothly, you need to know your role and something about that person before the evening begins. Thus, registration is three weeks prior to the event so that you can receive your role and information about your character (not a script), and prepare your costume.
November 7. In a harbor village filled with backstabbers and buccaneers looking to get ahead, there is little reward for honesty and a high price to pay for deceit. We all know pirates are unsavory characters, but will one of these cutthroats murder one of their own? Or, maybe, the deed was done by a landlubber. Who would commit murder? And, why? Is it for extra booty, because of infidelity of one’s partner, dislike of a matey, etc. Are you the murderer? You’ll only know by participating in the game. Reservation deadline is October 17th. 970-527-6776.
February 20. A night of mystery and intrigue in the roaring 20’s! With the passing of prohibition and organized crime on the rise, Rosie’s speakeasy has been jumping. To celebrate its success, she’s planning a party to remember and you are invited! One of the names on the guest list is also on someone else’s hit list. No one is safe from murder…but everyone will have a chance at solving it. Can you finger the culprit? Reservation deadline is January 30th. 970-527-6776.
Cost: $250/couple or $175/single. Price includes a role in the murder mystery, dinner, one night stay at the historic Bross Hotel, breakfast. Without overnight stay: $150/couple or $100/single.

Mountain Harvest Festival
This is the 15th year for the Mountain Harvest Festival. It just keeps getting better and better. If you haven’t participated in this even yet, it’s time to do so. Kick off the weekend with a prose and poetry reading and/or a pub crawl. On Friday and Saturday you can take a tour of a farm or orchard, join the Paonia Bicycle Club for a ride, run a 5K, participate in, or cheer on, the Grape Stomp, buy goodies at the Farmer’s Market, relax in the park with a variety of live music.
The Mountain Harvest Festival is a family friendly event. There are numerous games and activities for children. Bet they’d like to play “Cow Bingo”. Place you bet on where the cow will make a stinky deposit and win a prize! Or, if your family team participates in the Grape Stomp, the Bross will pay your registration fee if you let me know by September 20th.
Don’t miss the Saturday Sundown Swing - 10 bands in concert in four locations downtown. This is the only event for which you need a ticket and that one ticket gets you into all venues. Further information and tickets can be obtained at: mountainharvestfestival.org.
